The History of the Daleian Singers

The choir was formed in 1957 by a group of choristers from Silverdale Methodist Chapel.
They called themselves the Daleian Singers, a name chosen to reflect the geographical connection of this North Staffordshire Male Voice Choir.

Over the years the Daleians have built up an enviable reputation as formidable competitors in the festival arena. Daleian successes include wins at Blackpool, Bourneville, Buxton, Southport, Tamworth, Pontrhydfendigaid and Minsterley (3 in succession).

Despite many festival successes, the Daleians regard themselves primarily as entertainers and although much in demand "at home" they have given concerts as far a field as
"The Lakes", Cornwall, as well as in Yorkshire and Lancashire and a celebrity concert on Llandudno Pier. In addition the choir have given a number of performances in support of local and national charities.

During 2004 we enjoyed the May bank holiday in the "Land of Song", sharing a concert with the RAF St Athan Voluntary Band.

For the May bank holiday 2005 we enjoyed a visit into the Kent countryside, singing at Shorne Village Hall and Gravesend Methodist Church.
During our time there we also took time out to sail up the River Thames from Greenwich to the London Eye, where the choir sang in one of the pods as we viewed the expanse
of the capital city below us.

In the early days, BBC Radio Stoke signed off their evening programme with a musical recording by the Daleians. The Choir also features on a special BBC recording of "Songs of Praise", produced to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the BBC.

Our latest CD entitled "Pure Gold" has just been released and recounts in song the tunes sung by the choir over the past 50 years. Please contact us if you wish to purchase a copy.
